The Gangsta of Love: Dita Von Teese and The Art of the Teese
If you know me personally, you'll know I'm passionate, fixated, and yes, obsessed with many things, but mostly these four things: vintage, Benedict Cumberbatch, The Killers and the Queen herself, Dita Von Teese. I started dabbling into pin-up and vintage at the end of freshman year of high school, but I've known about Dita a bit before that. It was her classic and glamorous style that really got me more into vintage fashion and later on into my pursuit of my fashion design degree.
In the words of Jonny McGovern: "Look at HUH!"
I had the chance of seeing her perform 'Strip Strip Hooray' at a local theater back in 2012, but missed my chance. When 'The Art of the Teese' tour was announced, I had to jump at the chance to see her live at least once. I could not contain my excitement when I bought the tickets so much so that I was actually shaking. Come two weeks before the show, I realized something: I have nothing to wear. So what do you wear to meet the Queen?
We both made our outfits from scratch (and last minute hahaha)
Because I'm a horrible person, I always wait until the last minute to make myself something. I waited until Wednesday (when the show was that Saturday) to start on a cute pink number that looked great in my head but not so much in real life. To keep it short, it looked like a pink and gold nightgown, but not in a good way. So I had to think on my feet and made a simple but sweet polka dot dress that I could have fun accessorizing.

With sister and bestie in tow, we headed for the Gardenwalk in Anaheim for dinner before the show. Apparently The Cheesecake Factory was the place to be because we saw many pin-ups having a quick bite as well. We finished up and headed over to the House of Blues where we were met with a very long, but very fashionable line of people waiting to see the show. Everyone looked amazing and sported nothing but the best to see the fab Ms. Von Teese and her sparkling Vontourage.
Waiting in line like...
*If you do plan to see the show, make sure you bring a fan or purchase one from the merch table because it does get H-O-T in there (besides the actual temperature *wink wink*).
Honestly, at this moment, my stomach was teeming with glitter butterflies
The beyond hilarious Jonny McGovern was our M.C. and had us seriously in stitches throughout the entire show. When he introduced Dita's first number, my heart was racing and my eyes started welling up a bit. And there she was, sparkling from head-to-toe in a Swarovski crystal-covered yellow gown and feathers adorning her platinum blonde hair. Her first act was her famous champagne glass act, and it was nothing less than spectacular. She had 4 different acts that night, with the other performers on the tour doing an act in between each one. These wonderful peformers included Ginger Valentine, Zelia Rose, Violet Chachki, Dirty Martini and Jett Adore. Everyone brought something different to the table and trust me, your jaw will be on the floor by the end. Each act ranged from funny to enticing to even magical.
Everyone was amazing and so glamorous! (forgive the blurriness lol)
Even though it is incredibly hard to choose just one, I think my favorite act Dita Von Teese did that night had to be her last one, the cowgirl act. She put on her warpaint (a.k.a. lipstick), shot us a don't-mess-with-me glance, brought out her pistols and showed her luxurious pink mechanical bull who's boss. In that whole act she showed that she can be a badass while being soft and incredibly seductive.
Yes, I collected the confetti at the end, don't judge me.
If you have the chance to go, do go and see the Art of the Teese. It's a can't miss show with so much glitz and glam and of course the gangsta of love herself! I can finally say that I saw Dita Von Teese live and it's a night I will never forget.
And that's a wrap! Make sure to check the blog for more fun posts! Till next time!
